The Basics of Jump Starting a Car

The major reason why you would need to jump start a car is because your car battery died. This may happen because you accidentally left your lights on overnight or because your battery is simply old and needs replacing.

You will first need jumper cables and a second car. Put both cars in park with the engine off. The red clamps should go on the positive end of your battery. The black clamps connect to the negative ends. Turn on the engine of the car that works. It is best to let it run for a few minutes before trying to start your car. Make sure that you keep driving for at least 15 minutes once the engine has started.

Before you go on a long road trip, it is a good idea to have your battery inspected. Come by our car repair facility in Chattanooga, TN to get a great rate on superior service.
