Get Your Car Ready for the Cold During Fall Car Care Month

Getting your car ready for colder weather while it's still relatively mild outside is a great way to ensure your safety. Since October is Fall Car Care Month it's the perfect time to get some basic maintenance procedures performed on your car. The Car Care Council recommends these tips to keep your vehicle running safely and efficiently.

  • Check all fluids. Make sure your car has enough engine oil, coolant, power steering, windshield wiper fluid, brake and transmission fluid.
  • Check the hoses and belts. Make sure belts and hoses aren't cracked, frayed, loose, brittle, or otherwise showing signs of excessive wear.
  • Check the battery. Make sure there is a good, tight connection and that there is no corrosion.
  • Check the brake system. This should be done annually and the brake linings, rotors and drums should be checked at each oil change.
  • Check the heating, and air condition system to make sure that it is working properly. This is important in keeping you safe and comfortable during the colder months.
